Bahía Marbella | Before & After

Some renovations update a home. Others completely redefine it.

When the owners of Bahía Marbella first approached Zoco Home Interior Design Studio, the villa already had a proposed design. While contemporary and visually appealing, it felt similar to many properties found across Marbella today: clean-lined, minimalist, and designed with broad appeal in mind.

The family envisioned something entirely different.

They wanted a home with warmth, character, and a stronger connection to Spain. A place where children, grandchildren, and friends could gather effortlessly. A home that embraced the principles of mediterranean living, prioritising comfort, atmosphere, and meaningful moments over trends.

“We wanted an Ibiza style. Warm. Spanish. To run away from minimalism. To represent the Mediterranean. Slow living and gathering.”

What followed was a complete renovation that transformed not only the aesthetics of the property but also its architecture, circulation, and everyday functionality.

Designing around the heart of the home

One of the first things the design team identified was that the existing layout didn't reflect the way the family actually lived.

Food, conversation, and togetherness play a central role in their daily life, yet these rituals weren't supported by the original floor plan. Rather than creating isolated rooms, Zoco Home reimagined the kitchen and dining area as the true heart of the home.

The space was opened up, high ceilings were preserved, and every design decision focused on creating an environment where people naturally gravitate together. Today, the kitchen and dining room set the tone for the entire house, becoming a place where everyday moments unfold organically.

Creating flow where there once was separation

The transformation becomes even more apparent when looking at the relationship between the living spaces.

Previously, the area that now serves as the main living room functioned as an office with its own terrace, disconnected from the rest of the house. Rather than accepting those limitations, the design team carried out significant structural modifications to improve circulation and create a stronger connection between spaces.

The result is a home that feels intuitive to move through. From the entrance, the eye travels naturally towards the dining area, into the living room, and out towards the garden and pool. New openings around the fireplace reinforce this visual connection, allowing natural light and outdoor views to become part of the interior experience.

The feeling is effortless, yet every element was carefully considered.

Unlocking the home's hidden potential

Throughout the project, many of the most impactful changes came from seeing possibilities where others saw limitations.

An unused terrace on the first floor became an additional bedroom, allowing the home to accommodate a growing family without compromising existing spaces. Bedroom layouts were reconfigured to feel brighter and more generous, while storage solutions were redesigned to create a greater sense of openness.

The master suite underwent one of the most dramatic transformations. Rather than functioning as a single large room, it was organised into distinct zones, including a dressing area, a spacious bathroom, and a statement bathtub that introduces a sense of calm and luxury.

These interventions may seem subtle on paper, but together they completely change the experience of the home.

New spaces, new ways of living

Some of the most exciting additions did not exist in the original design at all.

The rooftop was conceived as an entirely new destination within the property, designed around sunset views, relaxation, and entertaining. Featuring a jacuzzi and lounge areas overlooking Gibraltar and the Mediterranean coastline, it introduces a completely different atmosphere from the rest of the house.

It reflects one of the key ideas behind the project: creating different experiences for different moments of the day.

Every space has a purpose, and every area contributes something unique to family life.
